CENTROID CNC CONTROL OPTION - Rigid Tapping
Centroid CNC controls are very usable with their standard software package. However, we do offer higher level software features developed for the advanced CNC machinist and programmer. These optional software features are available for use on all Centroid M series controls. Below, we offer examples of common ways that this option is used to shorten the overall part to part cycle time. Whether you machine one part at a time or thousands Centroid has developed many add on features to help speed the process.
This option provides you with a single G-code to run a Rigid Tapping routine. Rigid tapping differs from Compression tapping. With compression tapping your Z axis position is calculated from the information you in your program. With Rigid tapping your Z axis position and feed rate is coordinated with the spindle's position in rotation. It's like an electroic gearbox. Nomatter how fast or slow the tap is rotating, your Z axis remains in precise position relitive to the thread of the tap. How can I use this on my machine?
You will program a G74 for left hand tapping and G84 for right hand tapping. The cycle will automatically begin the proper rotation and feed, stop rotation and feed at the programmed depth, then reverse the rotation and feed to back the tap out. With Rigid tapping you can also peck tap. This will brake and remove the long stringy chips created by some materials.

Use of this tapping cycle DOES NOT require a compression tap holder but the use of a compression does not create a problem.
