The Newport Model 820A panel-mounted thermal printer is a compact microcomputer-controlled, BCD data printer for use with digital panel meters, multimeters, counters and other instruments having BCD outputs
It is a 20-column printer complete with mechanism case, power supply and interface electronics. Alphanumeric characters are formed in a 5 x 7 dot matrix that extends to 5 x 9 for lower case letters with descenders
Printing may occur at speeds adjustable up to 1.6 lines/sec. The printer is designed to interface with a wide variety of instruments having BCD outputs without requiring any additional electronic circuitry. All features mentioned here are standard with different
print formats selected by means of DlP-switch controls.
The Model 820A will accept up to 8 digits of BCD data in either the Parallel BCD or the Serial BCD modes. signal levels are TTL and CMOS compatible and either logic polarity may be accommodated for the BCD inputs and most of the control signals.
A character table is programmed into the microcomputer to give the user a wide selection of symbols to be printed in the three columns reserved for indicating the Units-of-Measurement.
An internal 24-hour digital clock provides an optional printout of days hours and minutes on each line of data to produce a permanent record of the time at which each data measurement is made.
Special symbols representing overload and alarm are printed whenever the associated input logic signals are true.
An eight-position DIP switch on the front sub-panel selects the various print modes and formats and the desired delay between printouts. Delays from .6 seconds to two hours may be selected in discrete steps.
minutes (or run number, hours and minutes) followed by one line of data for each instrument connected to the bus. After a delay set by the front sub-panel switches, the cycle is repeated.
A sturdy extruded aluminum 1/4 DIN standard case measuring approximately 3 1/2 inches on a side and 9 inches long houses the printer and the paper roll. Paper feeds down during printing in a data listing format with the last line readable through a clear plastic
window. A paper-out feature stops the printer and lights an indicator when the paper supply becomes exhausted.
